Writing and researching about a topics has always been a struggle for me for as long as I can remember. I have two things I would like to write about but have to narrow it down to one topic along with three subtopics.
The first is learning more about my local Quality Rating Improvement Systems. I would love to be able to provide information to child care centers (1) benefits in participating in a Quality Rating System, (2) ways to foster early childhood development, and (3) how others are or can invest in the quality care and education. I believe in a Quality Rating System and wish that my local child care centers would participate in which would provide the children quality care and education.
The second big issue is, I thought about researching was about working with families to improve infants and toddlers developmental progress using every days's life experiences. My subtopics for this topic was; (2) benefits in participating in an early intervention program like First Steps, (2) ways to involve families in the developmental process, and (3) how your daily routines can foster child development.
I feel both topics and subtopics are still to broad and not sure which topic to choose. WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Hi Nina,
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, this is a challenge! Although it is fun to read something you are passionate about. Quality is a great topic, it is so important, I think the self assessment piece of any quality rating is so helpful. It would be so great if that was mandatory for all schools through licensing. I don't mean penalizing those that score lower in quality, that should be a good reason for a funding source to up quality. Within the quality rating my school does there are many categories, ie family partnership, teacher education, health and safety, materials for each domain, and teacher/child interactions. I wonder if you choose one of the quality topics you feel is important to focus on. Also working with families to improve infant and toddler development is great too. I can't wait to see this develop.
Nina,
ReplyDeleteI liked all of the topics and subtopics you listed. I feel that quality is very important in early childhood education. I think that the higher the quality in a program, the better the outcome for the child and the economy. I think the first topic you listed about the benefits to participating in the Quality Rating System is specific and focused. When you do your literature review for this, the results will hopefully be narrow and direct enough for you. Even the topic of how your daily routines could foster child development is a great start! I'm excited to continue to read about your topic and what you've chosen, especially the findings you discover.
Good luck!
Erin
I love the idea of research on infant and toddler development! I just feel that this is an area that needs more research that can benefit childcare organizations and parents both! I look forward to following your findings.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to this being a challenge but a welcomed one because I am learning. I think that the Quality Rating System is a good idea. It is a good thing because when there are assessments to make sure that the program is of quality then they(the company)are more likely to make sure that thngs are up to par.
